Locum Consultant Anaesthesia
Surgery, Critical Care and Planned Care.
Fulltime :10 PA's
12 months (fixed term)
Main duties of the job
There is a busy maternity unit with over 5,500 deliveries per year and a well-established epidural service. There is dedicated consultant obstetric anaesthetic cover during the week. We will also be commencing high risk obstetric clinics and seeing more patients preoperatively and establish Enhanced recovery as the norm.
There are dedicated daily trauma lists as well as 8am to 2pm trauma lists at weekends.
There are daily CEPOD lists that are normally consultant led.
There are six main theatres and three daycare theatres. The surgical specialties include orthopaedics, urology, general/vascular surgery and gynaecology. ENT surgery is only undertaken in daycare.
There is an interest in laparoscopic colorectal surgery and there is a dedicated state of the art theatre for this purpose. Another theatre in day care unit has been refurbished with state of the art equipment for laparoscopic surgery. This hospital has a very dynamic urology department with an interest in the treatment of renal stones and tumours.

Qualifications
Essential
- MBBS or equivalent
- FRCA or equivalent
- Licence to practice and full registration with GMC
- CCT / CESR in Anaesthesia or or demonstrable equivalent experience of training and practice, will obtain this within 6 months of starting in post. This may be extendable to a further 6 month if satisfactory progress is demonstrated.
Desirable
- Experience in any anaesthetic specialty sub interests.
- Name on Specialist Register on date of taking up appointment.
Training and experience
Essential
- Ability to do a wide range of anaesthetic lists including obstetrics and paediatrics.
- Demonstration of commitment to Anaesthesia such as relevant audits, publications, introduction of guidelines, relevant courses etc.
Desirable

- Experience of organisation and running of Theatres in a busy DGH anaesthetic department
Desirable
- Familiar with current structure of the National Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes.
