Job summary

Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust's Surgical Division are always looking to improve the care and management of our patients.

As part of its ongoing process to deliver a first class 24/7 service, we have an exciting opportunity for a highly enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic individual to join our MDT as a Theatre Efficiency Co-ordinator. This post will help the Division in its ongoing vision to achieve safe and high standards of care, as well as optimal levels of productivity and efficiency within its Operating Theatre environment.

This is an exciting role within our multi-disciplinary team, designed to facilitate a safe and supportive environment for patients undergoing surgery, ensuring they are managed safely and in a timely manner.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Medical, Nursing and Operational Teams in securing a smooth and efficient patient pathway through our surgical facilities, establishing a link between the Operating Theatres and the remaining of the Trust. Focusing on the daily deliver of our elective and emergency operating lists will be a key focus of the role, as well as maximising daily theatre utilisation by providing support to patients and staff across the service.

Main duties of the job

In close liaison with the senior Nursing and Operational Teams, the post holder will be pivotal in ensuring a smooth and efficient patient journey through Main Theatres and Day Surgery Theatres, ensuring key performance indicators are maintained at all times with governance/operational issues escalated in a timely manner.

Establishing a close link with the Surgical Wards, Admission Lounge and the Emergency Department will be essential for the post holder to ensure efficient planning of surgical lists and facilitate the patient flow between Wards, Theatres and Recovery.

The post holder will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day flow of patients within Main Theatres and Day Surgery Theatres, with a focus on the CEPOD (Emergency Theatres during normal working hours) during their Pre to Peri-operative Phase. They will be responsible for liaising closely with members of the multi-disciplinary, multi-specialty teams, with patients and their families if required.

Maximising daily theatre utilisation, Clinician's compliance and by displaying a hands-on approach on the role within Main Theatres and Day Surgery Theatres, the post-holder will provide support to staff across the service to meet agreed performance metrics, serving as a point of contact for advice and theatre flow issues.
