Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 7 Neuro Outlier Occupational Therapy Team Lead to join our Occupational Therapy Department at Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust.

The post holder will be responsible for leading the neuro OT team, ensuring best practice for our inpatients with complex neurological disorders.

Main duties of the job

To lead the neuro outlier OT service, ensuring best practice and the upskilling of rotational staff.

To offer regular practice placements to students and apprentices.

To carry out specialist assessments and treatment of patients referred to Occupational Therapy with complex neurological disorders.

To liaise with the multidisciplinary team to work towards an effective outcome and safe discharge.To promote the role of Occupational Therapy within the inter-professional team.

To participate in the Occupational Therapy in service teaching programme to further develop own and others level of knowledge and clinical skills.

Job responsibilities

To take the Team Lead role in the provision of Occupational Therapy Neuro Outlier services, supervising staff in the Occupational Therapy Neuro Team on a day to day basis in co-operation with the Professional Lead Occupational Therapist.

To provide and develop a high standard of Occupational Therapy service within the inpatient therapy Neuro Outlier team.

To provide comprehensive and specific OT assessments, interventions, education and advice for patients and relatives, using evidence based client-centred principles.

To develop provision of specialised neuro occupational therapy services, working closely with discharge planners, community neuro services and care managers to enable provision of patient follow-up in the community and facilitation of integrated rehabilitation programmes, especially when patients move across professional and organisational boundaries.

To take a lead in promoting the role of Occupational Therapy within the inter-professional team, and ensure that good communication exists with the medical, nursing and other professional staff.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

Essential

  • Health clearance from Occupational Health for the role specified.
  • Able to carry out moderate to intense physical effort throughout the working day and carry out concurrent activities

QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING

Essential

  • BSc or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • HCPC registration.
  • Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists
  • Accredited Practice Educator/supervisor
  • Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including attendance at recent postgraduate courses relevant to the clinical field

Desirable

  • Member of Special Interest Group

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Significant experience in different specialist areas as an Occupational Therapist within the NHS, or equivalent.
  • Working experience in area of acute stroke/neuro rehabilitation
  • Working experience of splinting/orthotics for Stroke
  • Experience of assessment and provision of specialist equipment
  • Participation in In-service training programmes
  • Participation in an audit or other evidence-based practice activity
  • Experience of working as part of an Occupational Therapy team and/or multidisciplinary team within the NHS
