This is an exciting opportunity to work in our gynaecology outpatients department as a Healthcare assistant

Gynaecology is a medical speciality focused on women's health. We provide a breadth of expertise and supportive services for a wide range of conditions including infertility, uro-gynaecology , Colposcopy, and diagnosis and treatments for gynaecology cancers.

Main duties of the job

This role involves leading the gynaecology outpatients team to deliver high quality, effective, individualised nursing care to all patients undergoing gynaecology outpatient assessments, investigations and procedures, ensuring a safe environment and providing a high level of information and support to our patients. The key areas we support include: colposcopy, hysteroscopy, uro-gynaecology, fertility, minor operations and early pregnancy conditions. The post holder will work under indirect supervion of the Registered Nurse

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • To welcome women and their relatives to the department.
  • To maintain the safety / promote a safe environment of patients/visitors and colleagues while in the department.
  • To help provide and promote a professional and caring environment for patients and visitors attending the department.
  • Assisting medical and other staff with procedures when required.
  • To act as the patients advocate during consultations, investigations and/or treatment.
  • Support women following a procedure or treatment ensuring their wellbeing prior to leaving the clinic.
  • Undertake clinical observations as directed by the Registered Nurse.
  • To maintain a thorough knowledge of the setting up and the preparation required to maintain and run a clinical session.
  • Be familiar with the medical equipment in the department and how to use it.
  • To count instruments and swabs pre and post procedures.
  • To assist the nursing staff in the booking of patients appointments. Enter women details onto the electronic patient record system.
  • To liaise with medical secretaries and other departments as required.
  • Complete pharmacy orders as required and have them checked by registered nurse.
  • To maintain accurate records and ensure all advice/information given is documented on the electronic patient record system.
  • To assist the senior nursing staff in ensuring that all clinical equipment is kept in good working order and ready to use.
  • To act as a chaperone where required.
  • Adhere to mandatory training policy.
  • Attend in service and other training sessions as required. To include Health and Safety or the moving and handling of patients or loads.
  • General hotel service duties such as tidying the department and maintain set stock levels.
  • Is aware of the location of resuscitation/emergency equipment and procedures.
  • Complies with the principles for the maintenance of hygiene and the control of infection.
  • Undertakes other duties as directed, such as cleaning, storing and checking of equipment and the tidying of clinical and storage areas.
  • Work across all gynaecology services/outpatient clinics on all trust sites as required delivering the service.
  • To undertake supervised training to gain appropriate skills within the department.
