Job summary

We are looking for Healthcare Assistants to join our internal Staff Bank and work on a temporary basis within the hospital.

If you are an individual with a passion for providing high quality care then we would like to meet you. Exciting opportunities have arisen for Healthcare Assistants to join our Bank Staff.

You will be required to show a passion and commitment in caring for patients with excellent communication skills. You will have the opportunity to gain a unique insight into all aspects of nursing care within busy and dynamic environments throughout the hospital.

You will need to have gained hospital experience or have an NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent), before you apply for this post as being a temporary post you will be working in a variety of different wards and you will need to be able to understand the hospital environment.

Our wards are a friendly environment where you will be encouraged to, and supported in, developing the essential skills required to contribute to our aim of delivering outstanding care to our patients. You will need to be adaptable in your approach to work and have good communication skills.

  • An NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as a member of the nursing / midwifery team, under the supervision and guidance of a Registered Nurse / Midwife.

They will undertake delegated personal care duties for patients and provide support for the Registered Nursing / Midwifery staff in maintaining a stable and safe clinical environment.

Job responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

Assist with the planned patient care under the supervision and guidance of a Registered Nurse/Midwife.

Provide and maintain a high standard of total patient care at all times, ensuring the dignity and self-esteem of the patient is preserved.

Assist with maintaining the cleanliness of the hospital environment thus, contributing the control of infection.

Report to the nurse/midwife in charge, on observations made of the patient/client and any changes in the patient/client condition.

Chaperone patients and accompany them to other wards, departments, hospital, maintaining the patients privacy, dignity and safety at all times.

Maintain confidentiality at all times, only providing patient information under the guidance and supervision of a Registered Nurse/Midwife.

Assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, visitors and other staff, as directed by the nurse/midwife in charge.

Undertake other duties, as directed, such as cleaning, storing and checking of equipment and maintaining storage areas in an orderly manner.

Undertake duties on different wards, across the Trust, within the 24-hour period, as required by service demands.

Courteously receive patients, relatives and visitors onto the ward.

Check patient/client property with another nursing/midwife colleague, and provide signatory evidence to confirm this has been undertaken.

Report all incidents and accidents to the nurse/midwife in charge.

Be aware of the location of resuscitation and emergency equipment and undertake basic life support procedures, when required.
