Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to apply for the post of specialty doctor in Paediatrics for 10 PA's (Programmed Activities) working a shift system.
The post is full shift and WTD compliant. There are always two on call middle grade doctors out of hours and on weekends covering neonates and general Paediatric. This arrangement is done in order to improve patients' quality of care and training opportunity for junior doctors during on call time.
The post is based at Darent Valley Hospital and serves the population of Dartford, Gravesend and surrounding areas catering for most specialties. The hospital has excellent road and rail links to the coast, crossings to France and is within 1/2 hour journey by train to London.
Main duties of the job
This post provides middle grade cover to the general paediatric, neonatal and to the out patient clinics under supervision of the consultants; and complements the existing middle grade training posts in the department. This post offers excellent educational and training opportunities with in house teaching for MRCPCH exams, level 1-4 safeguarding training and Neonatal & Paediatric simulation sessions.

Attending daily ward rounds in the Children's Ward and in the Special Care Baby Unit.
Supervision of all SHOs and acting as a source of advice and support to the nursing staff.
Give advice to A & E Staff and Paediatric Orthopaedic staff.
See Paediatric patients in A+E presenting as emergency or at times on the request of consultants when situation demands.
To liaise with the Accident & Emergency Consultant regarding Paediatric problems.
To carry out medical examinations on children, when child abuse is suspected; and participates in child protection assessment/investigations, including attendance at case conferences.
Attend specialist clinics in Cardiology, Paediatric Surgery, Endocrinology, Neurology and Gastroenterology.
See new and follow patients in the clinics under direct supervision of a consultant.
Making sure the discharge summaries are completed in time with relevant information both on SCBU and Paediatric wards.
Participate in clinical/medical audit, teaching and research within the childrens service.
