Main duties of the job

Consultant Paediatrician with neonatal experience are required to join an existing team of 20 Paediatricians at the Darent Valley Hospital, Dartford on a substantive contract. This is a replacement post.

This is a full time post but part time and job share are also encouraged subject to department needs. This is an excellent opportunity for senior trainees who are finishing their CCT in next 3-6months.

Any additional experience and training in paediatric neurology & epilepsy, would be hugely beneficial to support existing and growing services.

The appointment, with 10 programmed activities, will be made in accordance with the 2003 Consultant Contract Terms and Conditions. The candidates who are unable, for personal reasons, to work full time are eligible to apply and, if successful, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis in consultation with clinical director and consultant colleagues.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Share the general clinical work and take part in the 1:15 acute paediatric on-call rota as well as 1:15 hot weeks on General Paediatrics and Neonates.
  • The post-holder will also provide cover to PAU shifts (onsite 9am to 9 pm 7days a week) as part of the 1:15 rota.
  • The remaining working weeks would include 3 out-patient clinics per week including one at Queen Marys Hospital, Sidcup (details are in job plan section).
  • To start innovative Consultant led Paediatric clinics in the community and set an example by providing secondary level care closer to patients and GP services.
  • Support the Trust objective of a 6 week wait for new outpatient appointments.
  • Initiate and engage in safeguarding procedures as necessary and comply with the safeguarding pathway and protocol.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary planning for admission or discharge whilst on attending week.
  • Develop/maintain special interest in paediatric neurology & epilepsy and support in developing these services at DVH further. Time and support to develop these interests further will be provided as needed

Qualifications

Essential

  • MB or equivalent medical qualification. MRCPCH or equivalent.
  • Full registration and valid license to practice with the GMC
  • Demonstrating understanding of research methodology
  • Up-to-date NLS and APLS training
  • Level 3 safeguarding training up to date

Desirable

  • A higher degree e.g. MD

Skills/Knowledge

Essential

  • 6 months training in a Level 3 neonatal unit during higher specialist training
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well within a team.
  • Experience of supervision of junior medical and other staff.
  • Relevant management experience
  • Clinical Governance understanding.
  • Experience of clinical research/audit
  • Interest, experience and commitment to teaching.
