Main duties of the job
This is a replacement substantive post and the appointee is solely based at Darent Valley hospital. The successful applicant will join a team of 7 other acute physicians in providing a high quality service at the front end of the hospital. The appointee is expected to contribute to the development of the central role of the Acute Medical Unit (AMU), Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU) and the Hospital at home Team in delivering seamless acute medical care.
The provisional job plan includes two programmed activities spent in the successful applicant's area of special interest.
Candidates that are dual trained in General Internal Medicine and Specialty Medicine would be welcome to apply and specialty sessions would be considered and accommodated where possible. Applicants should hold a CCT in Acute Medicine or General Internal Medicine or be within 3 months of CCT at the interview date.

Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust has its headquarters at Darent Valley Hospital (DVH) in Dartford, Kent. DVH is a relatively new purpose built Hospital, which opened in August 2000 and was the first Private Finance Initiative hospital to be completed. The Trust offers a comprehensive range of acute services, with a bed-base of 544, to around 400,000 people in North Kent and South East London.
As an ambitious organisation we are continuously looking for ways to enhance and improve the services that we offer patients. We have been successful in developing an acute care collaborative with Guys and St Thomas's NHS Foundation Trust, allowing us greater service development opportunities under the new 'Vanguard' partnership programme. In 2017 we are further develop services at Queen Mary's Hospital in Sidcup, focusing on planned care.

Job responsibilities
As a Consultant Physician in Acute Medicine you will play a crucial role in ensuring the success of Acute Medicine, which comprises an Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit and an Acute Medical Assessment Unit. The service model is strongly supported by the Trust, and in this role you be pivotal to the delivery and expansion of high-quality care at Darent Valley Hospital.
The job offers the opportunity to contribute to the process of moulding and developing the delivery of acute medical care with established and dynamic team of colleagues.
The successful applicant will be expected to participate in the delivery of an excellent teaching programme to King College undergraduate medical students and help deliver postgraduate teaching to trainee doctors.
The appointee will participate in the 1 in 16 on-call rota for general medicine. The post holder will also be expected to provide agreed cross cover for consultant colleagues during leave.
On appointment, specific clinical responsibilities will be agreed with the post holder and the job plan can be adjusted to meet the service needs and interest of the appointee.
