Job summary
Rowan is a general surgical ward with colorectal surgery as its specialty.
The elective patients follow the Enhanced Recovery Pathway. The ward has 30 beds; including 5 single rooms. You will be supported by 3 Sisters. The ward team is supported by our Enhanced Recovery Nurse and Stoma Clinical Nurse Specialists.
The unit is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Your role will be weekdays only.
Your shift patterns will be agreed with you in conjunction with the Matron to meet the needs of the Ward.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder carries continuing responsibility throughout the 24-hour period for the assessment of care needs, the development of programmes of care and the setting of standards of care. Also carries continuing responsibility for the management of the ward, including deployment of nursing staff and teaching of learners.

Lead by example and promote an environment in which competent staff are committed to giving safe, effective, compassionate patient care. Furthermore, to ensure staff have the courage to communicate on the patients behalf the issues concerning them.
Agree with the General Manager and Modern Matron the standard of nursing care and ensure that these are maintained at optimum levels.
Co-ordinate the provision of patient care throughout the 24 hour period, ensuring that there is effective communication within the ward, liaison with medical staff and other disciplines and services.
