The Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust is seeking to appoint Simulation Fellows in Anaesthesia & Intensive Care. The post-holders will contribute to the delivery of the Division's strategic objectives and long-term recovery strategy of our elective programme.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Simulation Fellows will be covering ITU, obstetrics and general anaesthesia on a rotation shift-working pattern with ST3s and Specialist Registrars. The main commitment will be taking a lead in the specialist area on a rotational basis, the cardiac arrest team and in emergencies to support the ST1/2 whilst on-call.

When on-call, the fellows are responsible for the management of the patients in ITU (if required) and obstetric patients when covering the labour ward. They will be expected to support the ST1/2 in the management of general anaesthesia under the supervision of the ITU Consultant and Anaesthetic Consultant for out-of-hours, as well as supporting the care delivery within the operating theatres. The post holder will collaborate and be a member of the Cardiac Arrest and Trauma Team.

ST3s and fellows are expected to participate in the preoperative assessment of patients undergoing elective or emergency surgery and to attend theatre sessions as indicated on the weekly rota. There are six main theatres and three-day care theatres. All are fully equipped and there are ultra sound and cardiac Doppler monitors available for use. The main theatres are situated next to ITU, Emergency and Radiology Departments.

The post holder will also be expected to work across our Queen Marys Hospital site at Sidcup, comprising of seven operating theatres, two surgical wards and an Enhanced Care Unit (ECU).

The above-mentioned duties may need to be varied to meet the needs of the Service. The appointee will cover anaesthetic lists at Darent Valley Hospital, Dartford and Queen Marys Hospital, Sidcup. These lists include specialities like Gen Surgery, Major Colorectal, Urology, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics and daily CEPOD (Consultant led) lists. There are also dedicated daily trauma lists, varying from all day to sessional lists, including provision over the weekend.

On Call Rota: fellows will be part of 1:8 rolling rota either at Darent Valley hospital or Queen Marys Sidcup covering theatres/ maternity/ ICU / Enhanced care unit.
