Job summary

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and ambitious Director of Estates and Facilities to lead and shape the Trust's estate, infrastructure and facilities services at a time of significant transformation and investment.

This executive leadership role provides strategic and operational accountability for the Trust's built environment, ensuring it remains safe, resilient, sustainable and capable of supporting high-quality patient care and staff wellbeing, now and into the future. Working closely with the Executive Team, clinical leaders and system partners, the Director will align estates strategy with clinical transformation, workforce needs and long-term organisational priorities.

The post holder will provide visible leadership across all three Trust sites - Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital and Andover War Memorial Hospital - and will play a key role in shaping the Trust's capital programme, sustainability ambitions and statutory compliance assurance.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide strategic, professional and operational leadership for all Estates and Facilities services across the Trust.
  • Lead the development and delivery of the Trust's Estates Strategy, master planning, capital investment and infrastructure programmes.
  • Hold corporate responsibility for statutory compliance, assurance and risk management relating to the built environment.
  • Ensure the safe, resilient and effective operation of all hard and soft facilities management services.
  • Act as the Trust's subject-matter expert for estates and facilities, providing expert advice to the Board, Executive Team and regulators.
  • Lead major capital projects and redevelopment schemes, ensuring strong governance, financial control and delivery to plan.
  • Drive sustainability, Net Zero and environmental objectives within the estates and facilities portfolio.
  • Provide inspirational leadership to a large, multidisciplinary workforce, promoting engagement, development and high performance.
  • Manage significant revenue and capital budgets, ensuring value for money and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain a visible leadership presence and effective working relationships across Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital and Andover War Memorial Hospital.

  • Master's degree (or equivalent experience) in estates management, engineering, facilities management or a related discipline.
  • Chartered membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS, IHEEM, CIBSE, CIOB, RIBA, IWFM).
  • Specialist technical training across multiple estates and engineering domains (e.g., HTMs, HBNs, safety systems, project management).

Desirable

  • MBA or recognised leadership qualification.
  • LEAN or similar improvement methodology certification.

Experience

Essential

  • Significant senior leadership experience in estates and facilities within a large, complex organisation
  • Leading major capital projects and estate redevelopment schemes.
  • Managing outsourced services and complex commercial contracts.
  • Extensive experience of statutory compliance across estates and engineering systems.
  • Leading multidisciplinary and multi trade teams, including change management and workforce transformation.
  • Experience in risk management, incident response, business continuity and emergency planning.
  • Experience preparing business cases, reports and presenting at Board or Committee level.
  • Strong understanding of NHS estates policy, governance frameworks, compliance standards and system collaborations.
