Job summary

Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust considers the Clinical Nurse Specialist role as a keystone to the optimal care of our patients and to the success of our Trust. The delivery of high quality, effective and compassionate care is the most important objective for the organisation. This advanced clinical leadership role therefore has the authority required to deliver the responsibilities and accountabilities outlined in this job description.

The palliative care service operates over 7 days.

The Palliative Care business unit operates across all Trust sites. This includes the hospice in Andover and Winchester, links to the hospice in Basingstoke and various activities in the community. This is a cross site role.

Main duties of the job

The delivery of a seven-day, twenty-four-hour service by the team or area for which you have responsibility this includes:

Expert professional adviser

Clinical Lead for the specialist service

Leads the development in own speciality services

Delivers education to the multi-disciplinary team

Assessment and treatment of own caseload of patients

Responsible for clinical governance within the team.

Ensuring clinical services are delivered to a high quality of care and that all compliance requirements such as CQC and contractual requirements are achieved

Leads on clinical audit

Adviser for the speciality both internally and externally

Lead on the highly complex patient assessment, where factors may be conflicting, requiring high level analysis and interpretation skills and the comparison of a range of options to achieve effective treatment

To develop the above skill set with the staff who report to you or for whom you have a responsibility to train

  • Professional UK registration e.g. NMC
  • Degree level education or equivalent knowledge and skills gained through any combination of alternative study, or employment experience
  • A Masters degree or evidence of working towards a Masters degree in the relevant field

Desirable

  • Additional Post graduate learning in specialist field including master's degree or working towards
  • Level 5 Certificate/Diploma in Management and Leadership, or equivalent
  • Non-medical prescriber

Experience

  • Evidence of significant post registration clinical work experience to masters level
  • Design and delivery of effective organisation wide training programmes and/or interventions.
  • Experience of staff supervision and mentorship including, employee relations, performance, conduct and training needs analysis

  • Experience of project management for policy development or large-scale projects
