Job summary
We are looking for a full time locum consultant for a 6 month period to cover maternity leave. They would join our enthusiastic team to develop integrated Haematology services for the acute hospitals, community hospitals and primary care in Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The role would provide both General Haematology laboratory and clinical care . This individual will work as part of a team of 8 consultant haematologists covering Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust
The post will be primarily based on the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital site.
Applicants must be on the GMC register and within 6 months of completion of their CCT at time of interview.

Main duties of the job
Clinical Responsibilities
- Providing clinical and laboratory haematology services covering inpatients, outpatients, day cases and GP referrals together with the other consultants within the
- Responding to clinical and laboratory enquiries
- Liaising with clinicians to ensure that important laboratory findings reach them promptly and provide advice regarding appropriate
- Involvement in the clinical management of patients in the hospital and community. Providing evidence-based care for patients in a multidisciplinary
- Involvement in the education of Trust and Primary care staff.
- Participate in an out-of-hours consultant on-call. This is provided by the eight consultants and includes prospective cover for consultant colleagues leave. On-call responsibilities will include cover for haematology inpatients on the BNHH site and clinical advice to GPs and hospital clinicians across the whole Trust.
- Active participation in clinical research with recruitment of patients to cancer clinical trials and regular review of the clinical trials
- Actively participate in the day-to-day clinical supervision and management of the haematology laboratory
- Participation in clinical audit, Quality Improvement and other departmental and directorate clinical governance activities
- Participation in teaching of medical, nursing and laboratory
- Provision of educational and clinical supervision for junior medical staff

The duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service. The post holder will provide continuing responsibility for patients in their charge and in partnership with colleagues working for the proper function of the department.
The post holder is required to hold a CCT or equivalent in Clinical Haematology. The post holder should therefore be trained in all aspects of clinical and laboratory haematology. The post holder should be fully committed to the provision of a high quality haematology service to the trust and the community as part of the haematology department.
Specific responsibilities include:
