Band 6 Midwife - Fetal Medicine Midwife, Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Location: Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester

Part Time: 22.5 hours per week

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and organised midwife to join our Antenatal Clinic team and Fetal Medicine Consultant. The post holder should be passionate about caring for those with complex and multiple pregnancies, be aware of national recommendations and screening programmes, and be able to foster an excellent working relationship with those who input into the care for these mothers and babies.

  • To provide support for women with confirmed or suspected fetal abnormalities.
  • To streamline care for women needing fetal medicine input e.g. fetal abnormalities, multiple pregnancies, those at risk of pre-term birth.
  • Responsible for managing referrals to tertiary units and ensuring care pathways are followed.

Main duties of the job

  • Experienced midwives to join our enthusiastic, reliable and hardworking team
  • Someone to assist the antenatal screening team in the running of the screening programmes. This will involve supporting women who have received high chance results, were a fetal anomaly is found or are attending for termination of pregnancy
  • Promote and maintain a culture of woman-centred care within the maternity service
  • Help to foster a holistic multidisciplinary approach to women's care and communication

  • To work with other members of the multidisciplinary team to provide clinical expertise and professional advice and support.
  • To act as an advocate and support for parents.
  • To work with other members of the multidisciplinary team to help explain findings and give available information to parents, including prognosis and possible outcomes of pregnancy.
  • To liaise with other specialties to coordinate the management, support, and care of families.
  • To work with others to organise termination of pregnancy for those parents wishing to interrupt the pregnancy.
  • To participate in prenatal and postnatal counselling as part of the wider team.
  • Liaise closely with ANNB screening team and update appropriate databases for FASP reportable diagnoses.

Essential

  • Registered Midwife.
  • Degree level or equivalent with evidence of further professional development.
  • Provide evidence of personal and professional development.
  • Champion for midwifery led care

Desirable

  • Practice supervisor status.
  • Training specific to fetal medicine, antenatal and newborn screening or multiple pregnancies.

Experience & Knowledge

Essential

  • Awareness of professional responsibilities
  • Able to make appropriate clinical decisions in view of recent research, informed choice, and individual circumstances.
  • Experience of working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience of working within all areas of maternity including antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care in both the acute and community settings

Desirable

  • Experience within similar role
  • Experience working within the Antenatal clinic environment.

Skills & Ability

Essential

  • Able to demonstrate the mentoring of students and induction of new staff.
  • Demonstrate competence in: perineal suturing, cannulation, homebirth, epidural top ups, caring for women birthing their babies in water and in the home/birth centre setting.
  • Able to demonstrate team leadership and associate ward management competencies

Desirable

  • Has participated in research and audit.
  • Can demonstrate evidence of involvement in service improvement.
