Job summary
Applications are invited for the post of Anatomical Pathology Technologist for the Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Mortuary Service to be based routinely but not exclusively at the Winchester Mortuary. We are looking for a technician with proven technical skills to join our enthusiastic team in maintaining and developing service quality. Applicants must have excellent communication skills, display meticulous attention to detail and have a detailed knowledge of Mortuary function and end-of-life care.
Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has risen to join our close, friendly, and supportive team at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Trust (HHFT) as an Anatomical Pathology Technologist. This role will primarily be based at the Winchester site, however occasional travel may be required to the Basingstoke site, assisting the service as required. The trust offers a staff minibus service to help facilitate this which is free of charge for its staff.
We are looking for an individual who is caring, motivated and forward thinking, keen to learn and make a difference in providing a service of end-of-life care and dignity to the deceased and their loved ones.
This post will see candidates supporting the team, but is not limited to, admission, release, viewing and post-mortem examinations, liaising with a wide variety of stakeholders such as Funeral Directors, the coroner's office, various medical professionals, and the families of our deceased patients.
HHFT also supports a 24/7 on call service to HM Coroner and Hampshire Hospitals NHS Trust, which is currently 1 in 3 and must have a full UK driving license with access to their own vehicle. Travel time of 1 hour (paid) is given for call outs. Time in lieu is offered for calls between 00:00 - 05:59.
This post is a permanent position at 37.5 hours per week + on call duties.
This advert is for a Qualified Anatomical Pathology Technologist, however, individuals already in training / near completion of their Diploma level 3 may also be considered.

Winchester mortuary cares for approximately 1200 deceased patients annually, with around 620 post-mortem examinations performed on behalf of HM Coroner and Hampshire police services (Forensic). Basingstoke mortuary cares for approximately 1500 deceased patients annually, with around 750 post-mortem examinations.
The HHFT Mortuary Service supports professional development and encourages qualified APTs with the right skills and background to look positively at more senior roles and the diploma routes to technical and management advancement where it meets service succession planning need.
