Job summary

This role sits within the Trust's Legal Department and the postholder will act as the sole In-House Commercial Lawyer within a team of lawyers of other legal specialties, supported by the Head of Legal Services and Associate Director of Corporate Affairs.

Main duties of the job

  • Drafting, reviewing, advising on, and approving a full range of commercial contracts covering a range of subject areas, including income and expenditure contracts between NHS organisations
  • Leading on legal negotiations with third parties and their legal representatives in connection with commercial contracts, property matters and dispute issues
  • Drafting, reviewing, advising on, and approving a full range of commercial property transactional documents, including agreements for lease, leases, licences, sale and purchase of land documentation and agreements
  • Creation and maintenance of contract and property databases
  • Supporting contract management
  • Advising on and assisting with the management of commercial disputes
  • Advising the Data Protection Officer on queries relating to matters of data protection, data security and privacy
  • Advising on Intellectual Property queries when they arise;
  • Drafting agreements and technical documentation to support the procurement process and advising on procurement matters;
  • Advising on commercial risk
  • Continuously review and approve standard form agreements, legal policies, and procedures
  • Developing templates for use by the Legal team and more widely in the Trust
  • Conducting legal training as required
  • Contributing to various Legal team initiatives, projects
  • Deputising for the Head of Legal Services when required
  • Recommending appropriate courses of action to the Head of legal services and Associate Director of Corporate Affairs on commercial issues

  • Qualified Solicitor with practising rights in the UK, minimum of 3 years PQE
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a relevant commercially focused role

Desirable

  • Experience of working on commercial matters within the NHS or on behalf of NHS Clients
  • Broader legal/commercial experience

Skills & Ability

Essential

  • Effective organisational skills and ability to manage time and prioritise
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Excellent planning skills
  • Professional and sensitive approach
