Job summary

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (comprising the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, the Andover War Memorial Hospital & the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital) serves a population of nearly 600,000 people across Hampshire and West Berkshire, as well as providing regional and national specialist services.

We are looking for an intensive care specialist to join our team of 17 consultants who provide critical care services across two sites, covering a total of 27 beds, at the acute hospitals in Winchester and Basingstoke.

Main duties of the job

This is a substantive appointment that attracts 10 PAs, with the option to increase to a maximum of 12 PAs by mutual agreement. The base for out of hours work will be the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester with daytime sessions spread between Basingstoke and Winchester. Single CCT ICM or Dual CCT ICM applicants with complementary specialities are encouraged and opportunities for daytime work on either site will be explored according to service needs and the successful applicants' personal interests.

Our critical care facilities consist of 9 critical care beds in Winchester and 18 beds in Basingstoke. The critical care teams are involved in portfolio research, education, training and several multi-disciplinary in-house training courses each year. There is an established and successful ACCP training programme and we support the education and training of anaesthetic, medical and surgical trainees working on the units. There are critical care outreach and follow-up clinics on both sites. The critical care service and the Trust actively encourage collaborative working with robust clinical governance and shared learning across the two sites with a strong emphasis on clinical effectiveness, audit, quality improvement and monthly governance and M&M review meetings.
