Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled enthusiastic Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist to join our Specialist Hand therapy and Rheumatology Occupational Therapy Team on a 1 year fixed term or secondment basis, providing outpatient Hand Therapy and Rheumatology OT to patient's from across the North Hampshire region. The post has funding for a 0.57 Wte Band 7 or 0.7 Wte B6 (dependant on experience) with candidates invited to apply for either banding. The opportunity has arisen due to maternity leave and an employment break.

Main duties of the job

  • Work as a specialist Hand Therapist to assess and treat a complex case load of patients requiring specialist Hand therapy rehabilitation
  • Support the development of less experiences B6 staff and students within Hand Therapy and Rheumatology OT.
  • Participate in departmental research and audit to enhance patient care and review quality of patient outcomes
  • To work cross site to deliver further hand therapy clinic sessions on the Andover site.
  • Lead the triage of Hand Therapy Patient referrals on the BNHH site
  • To be an active participant in and to lead education and in-service sessions for the Hand Therapy and Rheumatology OT team to ensure high quality CPD is maintained.

About us

You will be part of an integrated multi professional team providing a 'one stop shop' type service including wound care, dressings, splinting, suture removal, alongside specialist hand therapy rehabilitation.

We work closely with our Orthopaedic and Rheumatology medical and nursing colleagues to provide expert specialist care for our patients. A weekly MDT clinical peer group meeting alongside established digital and face to face communication links, with Hand Surgery Consultants and Radiology colleagues provides a high-quality open learning and clinical governance structure to the service. The team work across the trust's sites in Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover with flexible working encouraged.

The post is open to both internal and external staff. Previous Hand Therapy experience is essential for the B7 role, but not essential at Band 6 level. A good grounding in core physical assessment skills is essential for both roles.

There will be opportunities to develop across all aspects of hand therapy and rheumatology through local supervision and in-service training. External accredited courses will be supported where possible to enable further staff development. We are a research active department regularly contributing to local and national portfolio research trials. Local audit, service evaluation and research are encouraged leading to participation and contribution from all levels of staff.
