Job summary

The Surgical, Cancer & Critical Care Division at Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust is seeking to recruit an experienced and dynamic Operational Service Manager for their Haemophilia, Haematology & Oncology business unit.

The Haemophilia and Thrombosis service provides adult and paediatric care for patients with inherited bleeding disorders across the Southern Haemophilia Network. This is delivered through specific clinics both at BNHH and across the network. The Southern Haemophilia Network (SHN) is a clinical network providing care for patients with haemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders in Basingstoke, Portsmouth, Bournemouth, Poole and Salisbury. The specialist commissioners fund it as a network and the North Hampshire Haemophilia CCC is the hub.

Haematology and oncology care is provided through an inpatient ward, two day case chemotherapy units and an acute oncology service across Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover hospitals. University Hospitals Southampton (UHS) is the hub for the provision of radiotherapy for HHFT patients, providing radiotherapy treatments locally in Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital as a spoke site where possible.

Main duties of the job

The Haemophilia, Haematology & Oncology business unit is undergoing significant change to respond to the 10 Year Cancer Plan as set out in the NHS Long Term Plan and the additional challenges introduced with the covid 19 pandemic, meet rising demand, address workforce challenges and continue to develop services as part of our Modernising our Hospitals programme to deliver through a planned new Cancer Centre.

The post holder:

  • Will lead the operation and development of the service with responsibility for business planning, budget management and staff management, to enable delivery of access, activity, finance, staff performance, staff development and quality targets.
  • Has joint responsibility with the other managers and clinical leads to provide the overall leadership to the Division.
  • To be responsible for effective planning, scheduling, delivery and monitoring of access, activity and quality targets within Haemophilia, Haematology and Oncology.
  • To ensure the experience of individual patients within the service is central to the delivery of care by all health care professionals and non-health care staff working in Haemophilia, Haematology and Oncology
  • Work closely with key senior team members of the Trust to ensure the impact and implications of the changing national Cancer agenda are understood and planned for by the
  • Lead and coordinate service objectives ensuring compliance with local, network and national targets and plans.
