Job summary

Applications are invited for the position of Urology Fellow. This is a new post to provide service and training in non-muscle invasive bladder cancer and general urology, including the treatment of BPH, as well as an opportunity to be involved in the new HHFT acute urology service delivered by a dedicated Consultant of the Week. The post holder will work across HHFT sites (Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover) and acute urology oncall is provided on the Winchester site on a 1 in 5 basis (no night working, Mon-Thurs and Fri-Sun 08:00-20:00).

Main duties of the job

CUSTOMER CARE FOR PATIENTS AND/OR SERVICE USERS1. Liaising with patient families to discuss patient's progress, goals and achievable outcomes.2. Liaising with patients respecting their right to reach decisions about their treatment, careand wishes for discharge destination.3. Co-ordinating discharges with MDTs (Multi-disciplinary teams) and outside services toachieve what is in the patient's best interest.COMMUNICATION1. When necessary seek timely assistance from Senior / speciality colleagues2. Provide information to patients and family in a way they can understand.3. Co-ordinate with nursing and ward StaffPLANNING AND ORGANISATION1. Attend Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings2. Attend hand-over meetings with day and night on-call teams

About us

The Urology department consists of 8 full-time or near full-time Urology Consultants and 2 part time Consultants. The Department is a leading centre in BPH treatments including greenlight laser photoselective vaporisation and bipolar TURP. It is a large volume training centre for the new minimally invasive steam therapy for prostate surgery (Rezum), as the first centre to use this technique across the UK. The Department has recently also introduced the Aquabeam system (aquablation) which is currently under evaluation. In Q2 next year a new cross-specialty robotic platform will be introduced together with a state of the art simulator. The Department is also advancing its one-stop services for LUTS and haematuria clinics, and is establishing new pathways for daycase surgeries, including TURBT. The department has an exceptional portfolio in clinical trials mainly in prostate cancer focal treatment and diagnostic modalities.

  • MRCS (or equivalent)

  • ATLS Course
