Job summary
Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust wish to appoint a Consultant Histopathologist following the retirement of Professor Norman Carr. The post-holder will provide specialist diagnostic services to the Peritoneal Malignancy Institute (PMI), located at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital (BNHH). The Institute specialises in treating pseudomyxoma peritonei, metastatic colorectal cancer and peritoneal mesothelioma, and it is expected the post holder will have or will develop expertise in the pathology of these diseases. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop and acquire a national or international reputation as an expert in this field.
Main duties of the job
Duties will include dissecting and reporting specimens from patients with peritoneal malignancy and reviewing slides from outside hospitals when patients are referred to the PMI. This material includes large numbers of appendiceal neoplasms. Other pathologists working at BNHH share the workload, but the post holder will be expected to take the lead in this area and be the lead pathologist at the weekly Peritoneal Malignancy MDT and Monthly National Peritoneal Mesothelioma MDT.
