This post focuses on leadership and supervision to the cadre of Clinical Teaching Fellows teaching the undergraduate medical students within the Academy of the Great Western Hospital.
The Senior CTF's main role is to help the Academy Dean (AD), Deputy Deans, Undergraduate Manager, the Unit Coordinators / Unit Tutors and other teachers deliver the undergraduate curriculums of the three universities Bristol, Oxford and King's College London.
This post is an educational leadership role 16 hours a week (40%) delivered in the academy, typically as 2 days a week.
The post is suitable for doctors who have previous experience at level Clinical Teaching Fellow, an educationalist with ongoing clinical input.
The successful candidate will be required to hold a post-graduate qualification in Medical Education (e.g. Certificate, Masters or higher degree Medical Education)
The post is for 2 years, and it is possible to extend the Lead CTF post up for a further 1 year by mutual agreement with the AD, UG Manager & Deputy Deans
Main duties of the job
The Duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service.
- Acting in a mentorship role and sharing good practice.
- Coordinating across all the programmes from the three universities and with the clinical teams to help mediate needs and negotiate resource use.
- Coordinating development of teaching and other resources.
- Ensure that teaching sessions are appropriately timetabled and delivered.
- Encouraging innovation and producing case studies of projects undertaken.
- Development of a shared central repository of academy teaching materials.
- Liaising with CTFs, tutors, coordinators and leads about utility of existing teaching methods and contributing to course development in partnership with them.
