Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

CT Cardiac Clinical Specialist Radiographer

The closing date is 17 June 2025

Job summary

The Radiology department is fully equipped, boasting 4 scanners (recently installed Cardiac CT scanner, two 128-slice Siemens CT scanners & a Canon scanner), digital screening & fluro rooms, a SPECT CT and modern US machines. Additionally, we utilise regular on-site CT and MRI vans/static scanners to handle extra workload.

This presents an excellent opportunity for a seasoned CT Radiographer with NHS experience who is eager to advance their career in operational management and engage with cutting-edge equipment. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in the Radiographer Led Cardiac CT service and be responsible for the implementation, and continuous management of the radiographer-led Cardiac CT service.

For any inquiries, please contact Carol Argar (Lead Radiographer - Operations) at 01793 607296.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will be responsible for managing and leading the Cardiac CT service, which includes organizing the workload and staffing, with a focus on establishing and implementing a radiographer-led service in both areas.

The appointee will ensure that operational standards are met to deliver an effective and progressive service. Effective communication with modality superintendents is crucial to manage staffing levels appropriately, ensuring a safe, efficient, and responsive service.

The appointee will also be actively involved in the department's governance, with particular responsibility for CT in areas such as image quality, legislation related to the use of Ionising Radiation, risk management, Health & Safety, and audit activities within the cardiac service scope.

Maintaining the CT cardiac service with staff training to perform in line with the Trust's policy, including comprehensive competency assessments, is essential to maximize patient flow and ensure the resource is used efficiently and effectively.

Managing Cardiac protocols is a key part of the role, and the appointee will need to collaborate closely with specialty consultant radiologists and cardiologists to plan and implement any necessary protocol changes or developments as new imaging techniques are introduced.
