Maternity Cover 12 months - Band 6 Junior Sister / Charge Nurse Vacancy

An exciting opportunity has come up on Teal ward at the Great Western Hospital, Swindon to join us as a Band 6 Junior Sister / Charge Nurse.

Teal is a 36 bedded unit which compromises of a short stay area for the elderly community and an in-patient ward.

The ward has recently undergone a lot of new changes with arising developmental opportunities for all staff within the team. The training is available to all staff through the in-house training provider, the academy.

Teal and TOPSSU (Teal's older persons short stay unit) works closely within a large in hospital multidisciplinary team to plan discharges and long-term care with support agencies within the community setting.

TOPSSU has recently undergone a development which sees an increase in patient flow throughout our unit and for the trust as a whole. This exciting time enables our patients to be treated in the right place at the right time for their needs.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in providing effective nursing leadership supporting a team of nurses ensuring the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) code of conduct is at the forefront of the team's nursing care. In addition, the post holder will be required to work closely with the multi-disciplinary team in the provision of a high standard of individualised patient care,thus improving the patient experience. The position supports a clinical role in addition to assisting in the management of operational issues. The post will incorporate the provision of care to patients, their families and carers' in accordance with the philosophy and standards of care within the clinical area; in line with Trust policies and procedures, ensuring that values and beliefs are upheld.

Additionally, you will demonstrate continuing professional development, reflecting individual needs, the needs of the team, and the needs of the organisation.

1. Act as a clinical expert in their area of practice.2. Take charge in absence of Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.3. Participate in the delivery of care to ensure the individual needs of the patients are met.4.
