Job summary

Band 6 Community Midwife - 37.5 hours per week **There is an on call requirement and a car driver is essential**

An opportunity has arisen for us to recruit additional midwives to our team in Community Midwifery. The role offers the opportunity to provide care across the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period.

The job role is varied and gives the opportunity for midwives to work in community hubs as well as the homes of women, birthing people and their families.

There is the opportunity to provide care for birth ,offer antenatal education and be a proactive member of the wider Multi-professional teams.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is required to provide holistic midwifery care to women/birthing people and babies in the antenatal, Intrapartum and postnatal periods.

The midwifery care is provided both in hospital, birth centre and community settings including the management of individual caseloads, clients and/or ward areas.

The post holder will deputise for the Band 7 in community . The role is multidimensional and requires the post holder to be willing to work in different community settings.

2. Provide appropriate advice, knowledge and counselling to women and their partners regarding all aspects of antenatal, intrapartum (including home births) and postpartum care.

3. To act as an advocate for the women and babies receiving maternity care.

4. Demonstrate appropriate behaviour/attitude (helpful, kind, caring, compassionate and respectful) when dealing with service users and colleagues, acts as a professional role model for other staff inaccordance with the NMC Code (2015).

5. Provide parenting education, advice on health issues, and support in altering health behaviours, thereby improving health and wellbeing.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Midwife - NMC
  • Practising Midwife
  • Maintained an up to date professional portfolio
  • Training in obstetric emergencies

Desirable

  • Teaching/Mentoring qualification
  • To have obtained or be studying to degree level (or diploma with equivalent experience)

Experience

Essential

  • Recent experience in all aspects of midwifery practice
  • Competencies relevant to sphere of practice.

Desirable

  • Evidence of further study and development of professional and academic skills
  • Experience of mentoring students

Knowledge

Essential

  • A good standard of written and spoken English is required to be able to undertake the relevant duties.
  • Knowledge of current evidence based midwifery practice.
  • Ability to demonstrate competence in fetal monitoring.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of effective management of obstetric emergencies.
  • Ability to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of medicines management
  • Ability to demonstrate key issues relating to safeguarding
