Rehabilitation can be a challenging time as a patient, but as a therapy team, we get the exciting opportunity of helping someone regain their independence. Are you currently working as a Rehabilitation Assistant and want to further your career and development? If so we would love for you to take this opportunity to work with us to provide high quality inpatient rehabilitation and discharge planning in the Swindon Intermediate Care Centre (SWICC).
The post will be static on Forest ward here in SWICC. Consequently, on Forest Ward you will be required to see patients who have had a stroke, broken their hip, or have other reasons for requiring a short period of inpatient rehabilitation. We are a progressive team that is always looking to improve the way that we work with our patients and each other.
Main duties of the job
The role of a Band 3 Rehabilitation Assistant within our team includes working with patients to provide rehabilitation and discharge planning alongside a team of other Rehabilitation Assistants and qualified physio- and occupational therapists. This is alongside administrative tasks and working with the rest of the therapy team to cover the priorities of the ward as needed. We treat patients on an individual needs basis by identifying what they need to work on prior to discharge from hospital and supporting with referrals to community services when they have left hospital. Our core hours are Monday to Friday and you will be expected to work some weekends.

- To be responsible for own caseload of patients working as part of the Interdisciplinary Team.
- To assist the therapists with assessment and treatment of patients and, where appropriate, with patients continued management including implementation, supervision and progression of therapyinterventions whilst under distant supervision from the therapist.
- To work with patients individually and in groups using specific rehabilitation techniques and skills.
- To carry out routine and specific tasks with competence as requested by the Therapists which assist him/her in their role.
- To demonstrate a high level of initiative towards all aspects of the work ensuring effective delivery and running of day-to-day services.
- To participate in the assistant training programmes and to take every opportunity to learn and to develop skills, knowledge and competencies.
