The Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have an exciting opportunity for a Locum Neonatal/general Paediatric Consultant to come and join our dynamic and enthusiastic team at GWH! This role will be within Neonates but also with work in General Paediatrics.
This is a 8PA position but candidates looking for more or fewer PAs are encouraged to apply. The post is for 1 year.
This is a new role within the Neonatal team, as part of a wider expansion of the consultant workforce to allow dedicated separate Neonatal service provision. The appointed candidate(s) will join an existing team of senior medical staff including Consultants.

Main duties of the job
This is a replacement role within the neonatal team, and is maternity leave cover. It coincides with a time of wider expansion of the consultant workforce to allow dedicated separate neonatal and paediatric service provision. On joining the department, you will become part of a well-established, friendly perinatal team who are passionate about delivering a high quality perinatal service to our local population.
It is vital that new members of the team share this vision and help us continue to drive forward improvements in the service that we provide to our patients and their families. As a senior member of the team, you will become a key part in the delivery of training and supervision to our junior colleagues and an expanding team of dynamic advanced neonatal nurse practitioners.

Clinical Duties:
The post holder is required to hold a CCT or equivalent. As such the post holder should be trained in all aspects ofgeneralpaediatricsandneonatology.An interest and expertise in neonatology is important. Any other special interests will be discussed as to how they may fit into the department and will be supported as much as possible.
Participation in out of hours consultant cover for the neonatal unit on a rota (Approximately 1:8 weekdays, 1:8 weekends). On-call responsibilities will involve multidisciplinary team working across the perinatal service.
Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care (with secretarial support)
There is no on-site PICU but patients are stabilised in the ED or on the adult ICU whilst awaiting retrieval with support from the anaesthetic department. Where the patient is a critically unwell baby (as a guide, under 3 months of age), the neonatal team will provide critical care skills and support for stabilisation prior to retrieval by the regional Paediatric Intensive Care WATCh team.
Undertaking ward rounds around the neonatal unit and transitional care unit daily, aiming, where possible, for these ward rounds to be done in partnership with the baby(ie)s parents.
All consultants are willing to support new members of the team and a mentor within the department will be allocated.
Multidisciplinary team working is key component of the working within the Trust and involves regular MDT discussions with colleagues including our nursing, midwifery, obstetric, ANNP and AHP teams.
Development of sub specialty interests that fit in with Division needs and the strategic direction of the Trust.
Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties are required, and for contributing to undergraduate and post-graduate and continuing medical education activity.
Provision of cover for Consultant colleagues periods of leave in accordance with arrangements agreed within Trust policy.
Participation in clinical audit and in continuing medical education. Conducting suitable duties in cases of emergencies and unforeseen circumstances. The post holder will participate in an out of hours consultant rota, detailed within the job plan section
