If so, we are looking for a dynamic and forward thinking individual who can assist in the effective and safe operational running of the existing outsourced Pharmacy Aseptic Service. In addition, you will be providing support as part of our project to reopen the Section 10 Aseptic Unit in Autumn/Winter 2024.
This position is for a full-time band 4 Aseptic Services Technician working to support the Lead Aseptic Services technician amongst a team ofassistants, technicians and pharmacists who take pride in delivering safe, effective and high quality injectable medicines to our patients at theGreat Western Hospital.
This is an exciting role for someone who is ambitious with a drive to deliver a gold standard chemotherapy service for our cancer patients.
Main duties of the job
Supporting the Aseptic Services Team in the effective and day to day running of the Pharmacy Aseptic Services Unit (PASU).Supporting all aspects of pharmacy requirements - handling, receipting, dispensing, aseptic preparation, drug accountability, storage and disposal.Completing pre and in-process checks of aseptically prepared products and supervising operators within the cleanroom once full trainingreceived.Following department standard operating procedures ensuring all activities are in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Distribution Practice (GDP).
About us
You will be working within a dynamic multidisciplinary team to deliver a quality chemotherapy service to our cancer patients. This role will include supporting the transition of the service through a period of strategic change from entirely outsourced to a mixed service of outsourced plus in-house compounding of high risk injectable medicines.
The hospital is conveniently located just a mile off the M4 (Junction 15), and with a shuttle bus from Swindon town centre and station (every 15 minutes), getting here could not be any easier. The hospital is a modern building with excellent facilities both in clinical areas and for staff and as a trust employs over 4,000 staff.

1. To work under the direction of the Accountable Pharmacist2. To be competent to take receive, assess and action orders for all products managed by PASU.3. To be competent to calculate and check doses4. To be competent to prepare and check worksheets and labels using the Pharmacys IT system to produce and check accurate labelsand worksheets.5. To be competent to set up and check raw materials, consumables and equipment for all products6. To be responsible for and supervise the transfer disinfection into PASU and classified cleanrooms of all items required for asepticprocessing, following departmental processes.7. Able to work in a confined area using a positive or negative pressure isolators for a period of time.8. To be competent to accurately and consistently participate in the aseptic preparation and compounding of high-risk injectablesincluding, but not limited to, cytotoxics and monoclonal antibodies and intrathecal injections under a section 10 exemption of theMedicines Act.9. To take part in pre and in-process checking of products prepared aseptically by PASU and maintain competence in this area whereapplicable training and qualifications have been achieved10. To take part in the supervision of operators during aseptic preparation where applicable training and qualifications have been achieved11. Accurately collate and pick orders for pre-prepared products, and to place and check orders using an on-line IT ordering system.12. To accurately complete the required checks to enable safe receipt of all deliveries of pre-prepared aseptic products, raw materials,consumables and equipment.13. To physically unpack deliveries, place in the correct location and in stock rotation order and support in the co-ordination of this.14. To be competent to dispense all pre-prepared aseptic products (cytotoxic, high risk injectables, parenteral nutrition), oral chemotherapy,clinical trials and support medication including completing associated paperwork.15. To be a named person on the intrathecal register for the purpose of safely dispense and manufacture intrathecal drugs in line with localand national policies16. To consistently deliver quality assurance of high-risk injectable medicines and to notify the Senior team of any incidents or proceduraldeficiencies by means of deviation and error reporting procedures.17. To support the senior team in delivering Corrective/Preventative Action process18. To safely handle hazardous materials and waste such as cytotoxics, monoclonal antibodies, sharps and cleaning chemicals, accordingto Trust COSHH and health and safety policies without further increasing the risk to themselves or their colleagues and report anyhazards or risks19.
