Job summary
We are seeking a telephonist and booker of pacemaker alerts on careflow to join our team on a fixed term contract for 12 months. This may be extended.
You will provide a telephony and administrative service to the Wiltshire Cardiac Centre Clinical Physiology Department. This will be across the Cardiac, Respiratory and Neurophysiology departments. Accurate inputting of symptomatic information into the dedicated systems is of paramount importance. Following National Health Service guidelines and unit policies to ensure the right patient pathway is adhered to for clients attending for imaging.
Main duties of the job
As a telephonist, you will be the first point of contact for anyone who phones the clinical physiology department and deal with the patients' questions or pass them on to the correct person in the department.People who call might be anxious or upset so as the telephonist, you may have to calm them down or reassure them. Some calls are more urgent so you will need to deal with them in according to the agreed procedures.
Development, Planning and Service Improvement
This will include exchanging written and verbal information with patients, staff and carers' relating to appointments, admissions, and meetings, requires tact.
The role will include contact with:
- All staff groups within the Clinical physiology Team.
- All relevant departments and Secretaries around the trust
- All other relevant administrators
- Other hospital departments.
- General Practitioners.
- Patient, relatives, and carers

- You will be working within a team including the Clinical physiology administrator supervisor to provide seamless administrative support to the clinical physiology department; this includes Cardiac, Respiratory and Neurophysiology.
- Dealing with difficult, sensitive, and emotional situations on the telephone.
- Taking the majority of telephone calls that come into the clinical physiology department.
- Making sure all diagnostic tests are listed on to Cvis and referrals attached in to patient file.
- You will be required to obtain new pacing information for patient transfers from other hospitals.
- You will be required to transfer patient information when they move areas to the correct hospital.
- You will maintain the CVIS pre-op list, making sure that all patients are listed for the correct device investigation and the correct theatre room is listed for ICD patients. This also includes dealing direct with the MRI department with regards to ICD devices.
- You will also be required to help with the bookings for the Lung Function test & Neurophysiology test.
- You will also share the load of paper referrals within the team- adding them to cvis and attaching the referral to the patient file.
