We are looking for a Senior Midwife to lead the team on our co located Birth centre
You will lead our dedicated birth centre here at GWH, providing maternity care to women, birthing people and their families from the local population and surrounding areas.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be tasked with leading the team of midwifery staff working on the Birth Centre situated within Great Western Hospital, managing a team of staff, including midwives and midwifery support workers by completing appraisals, monitoring mandatory training, rotas, recruitment and selection and supervision of learners. The post holder will support and lead the team in the delivery of safe evidence based woman centred care which will be of a high standard. In addition, being responsible for ensuring all care is delivered according to Trust policies and procedures. Utilising clinical audit, research, supervision of practice and teaching, the post holder will monitor and improve standards of care by the use of efficient and effective resources providing leadership and managerial support when required to the continuity of carer teams.
Working in close partnership with our Delivery Suite, Community Midwives and the wider perinatal team. The Senior midwife for the White Horse Birth Centre will ensure a positive and proactive service to provide high quality care that meets the needs of mothers, birthing and babies

1. Responsible for the management and safe & effective running of the White Horse Birth Centre.
2. Provide leadership, clinical supervision and support to all professionals working in the White Horse Birth Centre and extended Midwifery and Obstetric Teams.
3. Have an excellent knowledge base of the principles of the Better Births recommendations Midwifery and Continuity of Carer understanding the underpinning rationale.
4. Be responsive and participate in any local and national initiatives which may result in changes in systems of care by contributing to the development of new and existing services.
5. Actively listen and investigate consumer feedback in conjunction with Patient Advocacy Services (PALS) of formal complaints. Meeting with complainants where required and ensuring lessons are learnt from any concerns or complaints. Assist the Lead Midwife with investigations into litigation cases.
6. Be responsible for the management and safe & effective running of the Birth Centre. Supporting the extended teams in the Division as required.
7. Foster a culture of safety and openness by reporting or reviewing clinical incidents, completing actions and sharing learning in a timely manner.
8. Participate in the risk management strategy of the department and Trust.
9. Effective communicator in both verbal and written form.
