Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for the implementation, management, development, co-ordination, and monitoring of significant services across operational pharmacy services including Trust Dispensary services and Outsourced outpatient services.
You will monitor the performance of both in and outpatient services provided, in order to maintain quality and safety for patients. You will work closely with the third party outpatients provider to manage the outsourced contract by monitoring financial and operational performance. You will ensure that targets are met, against our agreed contract and KPI's, ensuring that accurate and appropriate billing occurs to meet the economic expectations of the partnership, supported by the Pharmacy Operations Manager.
Your role will require you to develop strong business relationships with the third-party provider and manage various stakeholders within the Trust, across all levels.
You will have the opportunity to lead on audits, projects and reports relating to both outpatient and inpatient services within the Trust. With this knowledge, you will also assist in undertaking the education of pharmacy staff and other healthcare workers in relation to both inpatient and outpatient pharmacy services.

- Provide professional leadership and be responsible for the Trust dispensary team, ensuring that working practices meet requirements of medicines legislation, professional, local and national guidelines and that medicines are available in the appropriate quantities, places and times to meet the clinical needs of all patients.
- Establish and maintain appropriate arrangements to ensure that policies and procedures are developed, reviewed, and maintained and that they are adhered to by all staff working within dispensary services.
- Develop quality indicators and use them to monitor and evaluate and improve the performance of dispensary services, taking corrective action where necessary.
- Ensure roles and resources are planned to match workload, so that operational staffing is adequate on a day-to-day basis.
- Prepare reports and recommendations around service delivery (both quantitative and qualitative)
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with the third party and all key stakeholders to ensure the best partnership and that you are the point of contact for all issues relating to the outsourced outpatient pharmacy promoting positive and effective communication.
- To ensure third party provider submits and meets agreed monthly KPI data set for services and meet with third party provider on a regular basis to monitor performance.
- Manage any areas of poor performance by third party providers and agree areas for improvement and service credits if appropriate.
- Develop performance standards and regular processes of auditing the service and work with the third-party provider to co-ordinate development and best practice including reviewing patient satisfaction surveys undertaken by the third-party provider.
- To develop and provide a monthly, quarterly or annual report as required on relevant aspects of the services
- To be responsible for processing all invoices from third party provider for services ensuring they are accurate, meet contract price or agreed best price expectations and develop and implement a system of validation and rebate as required.
- Identify areas for the development of new services with the third-party provider in line with the contracted value-added services. Liaising with other departments and directorates as needed to develop the role of pharmacy and support and plan the re-engineering of pharmacy services.
- To work as part of project groups on Trust wide initiatives affecting outpatient transformation plans and lead projects on behalf of the Trust and in liaison with third party provider in order to continually improve the service provided to patients
