Job summary

We have an opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic registered clinical practitioner to join our friendly Infection Prevention and Control (IP&C) team at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon.

You will work as a member of the IP&C team contributing to the daily requirements of the service across acute and community services. The role will give you the opportunity to make a difference to the quality of care and improve outcomes for patients by providing evidence-based IP&C clinical advice and support on the prevention, surveillance, investigation, and control of infection to all staff across the Trust.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role involve providing specialist IP&C advice to patients and staff. You will be required support staff caring for patients through formal and informal education, practice development and role modelling. You will practise under the direction of the Band 7 Senior IP&C Specialist Nurses/Practitioners and IP&C Matron, working towards achieving agreed levels of competence, skills, and knowledge.

You will need to have good time management skills be able to undertake a number of duties autonomously as well as working with in a team. Excellent communication skills are essential to this role.

You will be part of the IP&C team who ensure IP&C related safe and effective clinical practice, enhance patient experience, and ensure delivery of organisational objectives across our acute and community services.

  • Educated to diploma/degree level in a specialism related to IP&C or equivalent experience
  • Teaching & Assessing qualification or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of recent update of infection prevention & control practice

Desirable

  • Infection Prevention and control qualification or equivalent post-graduation experience

  • Significant post qualification experience working in acute or community health care settings.
  • Recent experience in the management of infection prevention & control issues.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint or willingness to develop competency
