Job summary
We are looking to appoint a motivated and enthusiastic Clinical Coding Trainer to join our friendly and professional team at Great Western Hospital Foundation NHS Trust.
It's an exciting time for our growing department and the successful candidate will be responsible for the development and implementation of a training plan for the Clinical Coding Team.

Main duties of the job
Develop and deliver a comprehensive training programme to the Clinical Coding Department, involving the induction training of new staff, the provision of specialised training to the team as a whole and conducting National Clinical Coding Courses, to include the Clinical Coding Standards Course, Refresher Course and NCCQ Revision Programme.
Work alongside the Clinical Coding Audit Manager and Divisional Lead Coders to identify training needs within the team, providing guidance and ensuring improvements are implemented.
Provide expert advice on clinical coding, promoting a thorough knowledge of the national regulations surrounding the coding classifications to all levels of staff at the Trust. Lead on clinical coding projects as required.
Provision of line management support for all Band 3 Trainee Clinical Coders.

As part of the Clinical Coding Senior team, make recommendations on how to improve clinical coding quality and accuracy.
Manage an effective system of performance review and objective setting for the Trainee Clinical Coders, incorporating individual training needs analysis and planning to departmental, divisional and Trust objectives.

Participate in and organise clinical coding awareness sessions for all levels of staff within the trust, and attend multidisciplinary meetings to promote clinical coding, and the importance of accurate data.
Work with the Head of Clinical Coding, Divisional Lead Coders, and Clinical Coding Auditor to promote and develop engagement between clinicians and Clinical Coders, discussing clinical coding anomalies, agreeing, and documenting outcomes.
Be responsible for updating and maintaining clinical coding resources and documents held on the shared filing system.
Assist in the development and maintenance of clinical coding local policies, procedures, and guidance.
Develop training action plans for clinical coders, providing one to one coaching and support.
Foster relations with external organisations and Trusts to ensure comprehensive UpToDate training is given.
Provide professional support to the coding team, responding to and resolving technical queries. Conduct research to support clinical coding query resolution and to respond to knowledge deficits within the coding team. Communicate all clinical coding issues/concerns at team meetings and suggest practical solutions to problems related to performance or data quality.
Deputise for the Head of Clinical Coding as required for all matters pertaining to the Clinical Coding training function.
