Lead Specialist Nurse for PICC Service

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the PICC service at the Great Western Hospital. We are looking for a dynamic individual to lead the service and a team of PICC specialist practitioners. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership and management skills and be passionate about delivering a responsive and high-quality service to a variety of patients within the inpatient and outpatient setting.

The PICC Service Lead will work collaboratively across multi-professional disciplines to educate and support staff caring for patients with long term Central Venous Access Devices (CVAD) and will promote compassionate, safe, and high-quality care. They will work with the wider anaesthetic and divisional teams to develop the strategic direction for the service and ensure that best evidence-based practice in the insertion of PICC and Midlines, and the management of CVAD is promoted and practiced throughout the Trust. Prospective candidates do not require an existing skill in the insertion of PICCs and/or midlines, training for this can be provided, however they should be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge base in this area and have experience in the management of peripheral and central venous access devices.

Main duties of the job

The PICC Service Lead has responsibility for the coordination, management, development, governance and smooth operation of the Trust-wide Service and specialist team. They will provide effective leadership to empower, support and manage the team with accountability and budgetary responsibility.

They will work autonomously and provide clinical expertise for the insertion and management of PICC and Midlines ensuring that best evidence-based practice is promoted throughout the Trust. They will work collaboratively across multi-professional disciplines to educate and support staff caring for patients with long term central venous access devices (CVAD) to promote compassionate, safe and high quality care.

  • Teaching/Assessment/Mentoring qualification
