Level 2 /3 Physio Assistant Apprenticeship ( depending on experience)
18 months Fixed Term Contract
We are looking for an apprentice full time to join our busy outpatient physio assistant team who support the physiotherapists. The post will involve being trained in computer systems, answering the phone, dealing with queries from the general public and patients and general administrative tasks, as well as helping run classes, tidying the department filing, and gym sessions. The post will be interesting and varied; no two days are the same. Are you keen, willing to learn - this is the place to come and work and start your career in the NHS.
Main duties of the job
- To carry out specific tasks with confidence and competence as instructed by therapists whilst demonstrating sound initiative.
- To assist the therapists where appropriate with assessment and treatment of patients and, where appropriate, with patients' continued management including implementation and supervision of exercise regimes whilst under supervision from the therapist.
- To communicate frequently with therapists with regard to any change in patient status, behaviour, ability and response to therapeutic intervention.
- To supervise and assist in the running of classes and group work alongside the physiotherapist.
- To assist physiotherapists with supervision of patients in the hydrotherapy pool.

We have a dedicated team based in the Academy, which is the Trust's learning and development centre who will support you in your apprenticeship programme. They will work very closely with you, your manager and apprenticeship provider to support learning objectives and workplace goals. You will be employed on a 18 month fixed term contract on 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday) paid at £161.25 per week with time for personal study towards the apprenticeship standards. You will also be entitled to Annual Leave holiday inclusive of public holidays. As an apprentice with Great Western Hospital, you will also have the opportunity of a free Thamesdown Transport bus pass for the duration of your apprenticeship or equivalent monetary value towards a Stagecoach pass.

- To be able to assess, measure and issue appropriate walking aids and instruct patients on their safe use with knowledge gained through training and with reference to a physiotherapist.
- To be responsible for own time-management, maintaining an efficient diary where needed whilst ensuring effective delivery of day-to-day services.
- To monitor stocks within the department and re-order supplies using the appropriate systems.
- To assist in the general maintenance of treatment areas, alongside therapy staff to ensure a clean, tidy, hazard-free environment for patients and staff.
