An exciting opportunity has arisen at the Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for a Medical Typist/ Administrator who is highly motivated, positive, friendly and flexible. Someone who can work effectively using their own initiative, as well as being part of a team. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to multi-task with high attention to detail in this fast paced and varied role. Your role is to provide a comprehensive support role to assist the DOPS/Neurology Medical Team. You will be working 37.5 hours per week. Aftern an initial training period the post will have the opportunity to work from home for part of the week.
We are a friendly team looking for a reliable and enthusiastic person to join us who will perform mainly typing clinical letters. Experience of Microsoft packages would be an advantage
The post will be an integral part of the Unscheduled Care secretarial group providing an efficient service to the division in support of the work of Clinical Staff to maximise patient care. The successful applicant will be working as a Medical Typist predominantly within the DOPS/Neurology Department.
Main duties of the job
Your role will be to provide a comprehensive typing/administration service which will involve typing clinic letters and other related documents with high accuracy and in line with agreed Trust targets.
The ideal candidate should have good communication skills and be able to prioritise their own workload. GCSE in English and RSA Typing or equivalent keyboards skills are essential. Previous NHS experience and a knowledge of medical terminology are desirable. Audio typing experience and use of Microsoft packages are essential.

- Typing clinical letters, reports, and other patient related documentation from digital dictation system. Ensure that all work leaving the department is of the highest quality in terms of presentation and layout and is dispatched within agreed timescales.
- File tests and loose histories regularly as appropriate.
- Learn the digital dictation system and ensure that processes are followed.
- Retrieve, log and return case notes / medical records and ensure that they are processed in accordance with Trust policy (Case note tracking and Filling in Case notes).
- To undertake administrative (Choose and Book), clerical duties as required
- Prepare referral letters for clinics and forward filing.
- Update and maintain a working knowledge of hospital systems so that enquiries can be dealt with efficiently.
- Distribute all incoming correspondence and ensure outgoing mail is ready for daily collection.
- Participate in regular meetings and will be actively involved in generating ideas for service improvement
- Promote a positive image of the Trust at all times.
- Other duties and responsibilities of the post will be flexible and will be reviewed by the Team Leader.
