Job summary

We are looking to recruit a Clinical Fellow Foundation Year 1 Doctor staring asap until August 2024

Our Acute Medicine department is made up of the following areas

  • Shalbourne Medical Assessment Unit (SMAU) - 14 Beds
  • Linnet Ward MAU (LAMU): Admissions Ward - 32 Beds
  • Shalbourne Short Stay Unit (SSU) - 11 Beds
  • Medical Expected Unit (MEU) - 14 triage spaces/14 chairs
  • Cherwell - Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC)
  • AU - The Acute Medical Units operate 24hrs a day, 7 days a week. The unit provides rapid assessment, investigation and treatment for patients who have been admitted by the Emergency Department and those referred by General Practitioners from the community. 'Shalbourne MAU' and 'Linnet MAU' have Consultants allocated to each area, with Shalbourne predominantly managing GP referrals and Linnet receiving the ED take.
  • SU - Manages patients directly from the take or transferred from around AMU. Patients are managed with an expected LOS of 72 hours or less. SSU is adjacent to Shalbourne MAU.
  • MEU- This is area recently opened to support flow and assessment of our patients. It is for Medically expected patients who have been accepted by the medical admissions coordinator or the on call medical registrar and are expected to be assessed by the medical team. Most of these patients would have been referred by their GP's, with a minority referred from clinics, paramedics, or the Urgent Care Centre.
  • SDEC- Operates 7 days a week, 365 days a year between 8.00am and 8.00pm.

Main duties of the job

  • To be part of the Acute Medicine Team at the Great Western Hospital
  • rovide day to day care of patients in AMU (including admission clerking and assessment, clinical reviews, legible notes in medical records, prescribing, requesting investigations and actioning results)
  • Attend ward rounds
  • Discharge planning and completion of electronic discharge summaries
  • Maintaining patient safety by abiding by the Medicines Code, Infection Prevention procedures, Medical Equipment/Devices policy, and clinical governance
  • o participate in MDT meetings
  • Participation in clinical audits
  • he post holder is expected to adhere to all Departmental and Trust policies and work as part of a team to provide excellent care and minimise risk
  • Conducting suitable duties in cases of emergencies and unforeseen circumstances
