Job summary

This is new and exciting opportunity to become the first qualified or trainee Advanced Critical Care Practitioners (ACCP)at The Great Western Hospital (GWH).

ACCPs are highly trained members of the critical care team, empowered to assess and treat critical care patients under the supervision of consultants. The successful candidates will join a supportive team of doctors and nurses, and once qualified will contribute to a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week service as part of the medical rota.

Trainee ACCPs will be paid at Band 7, on successful completion of this programme, will be eligible to apply for Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine (FICM) ACCP membership status. On successful completion of training, attaining their MSc and FICM membership will progress to Band 8a. Qualified ACCPs with the appropriate accreditation and essential experience will start at Band 8a.

Main duties of the job

Trainees will undertake a two-year training programme that will be jointly delivered; the clinical component at GWH and the remainder delivered by a Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine accredited University via a blended learning programme.

o Undertakes comprehensive clinical assessment of a patient's condition.o Requests and performs diagnostic tests.o Initiates and manages clinical treatment plans.o Undertakes invasive interventions within the scope of practiceo Provides professional leadership and support within a multi-professional teamo Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge across a range of subject areas relevant to the field of critical care.o Critically analyses, evaluates, and synthesises different sources of information for the purpose of assessing and managing the care of a critically ill patiento Applies the principles of diagnosis and clinical reasoning that underlie clinical judgement and decision making.o Applies theory to practice through a clinical decision-making model.o Understands the professional accountability and legal frameworks for advanced practice, fulfils the requirement of FICM ACCP curriculum.o Applies the principles of evidence-based practice to the management of the critically ill patient.o Understands and performs clinical audit.
