Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic Dentist to join our existing team, on a 12 month fixed term contract, to provide Urgent Care to meet the needs of adults and children in the local community. There may be a requirement to operate from a variety of centres throughout Wiltshire, therefore use of a motor vehicle is essential.

You should be innovative, flexible and committed to working in a team environment while providing high standards of clinical care. The post holder will be required to work 8:30- 17:00 Monday to Friday.

Main duties of the job

To provide Urgent Care Dentistry to the population of Wiltshire and Swindon. The post holder will be required to deliver services within the GWHFT Community Dental Service contract and day to day management of a defined clinical area. The Service is pan Wiltshire and the post holder may be required to deliver services from any of our sites. The main base for duties will be Chippenham Dental Access Centre.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to:

  1. Provide dental treatment to patients requiring urgent dental care in line with Trust protocol and current best practice.
  2. Achieve personal performance targets, including delivering a specified number of Units of Dental Activity, to achieve a minimum number of patient contacts and to ensure the patients are seen within specified time limits within the dental contract
  3. Meet Band A Dental Officer Competencies as set out within the terms and conditions of the Salaried Dental Service Contract
  4. Participate in Clinical Governance Programmes as required by the service including audit, peer review and annual performance appraisal.
  5. Ensure that standards for Dental Professionals are met as required by the General Dental Council this will include demonstration of required CPD

Patient Care

Work collaboratively with other dental professionals to ensure patient focused care.

Budget Responsibilities

Staff should ensure that completed courses of treatment (COT) are closed within 1 month of completion to enable transmission to BSA within that calendar month

Responsibilities for People or Training

Provide day-to-day supervision of Dental Nurses in a defined clinical area, in association with the Dental Nurse Team Manager

Other Factors

Post holder may be required to travel extensively throughout Wiltshire, must be a car driver with access to a motor vehicle

Regular VDU usage

Core hours are 8.30 5pm. There is option to be included in an Out of Hours contract separate to the substantive role if the applicant wishes.
