Job summary

This role is a new role within the department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, the appointed candidate will join an existing team of 17 senior medical staff including Consultants & SAS doctors. As a senior member of the team, you will become a key part in the delivery of training and supervision to our junior colleagues. This post is for a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with the skill to manage all aspects of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and who has special interest in the management of adolescents with gynaecological disorders.

The appointment will be 10 PAs and includes being non-resident 1:12 on call for obstetrics and gynaecology. The Department runs a fixed day on call and the candidate will share Monday on calls with 2 other consultants ie on call every third Monday. Weekend on calls is on a rolling 1:12 rota. Hand over is at 6PM during normal working days.

The appointee should be trained in all aspects of general obstetrics and gynaecology.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Duties:

  • Multidisciplinary team working is key component of working within the Trust and involves regular MDT discussions with colleagues
  • Providing evidence-based care for patients in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care (with secretarial support)
  • Development of sub specialty interests that fit in with Division needs and the strategic direction of the Trust.
  • Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties are required, and contributing to undergraduate and post-graduate and continuing medical education activity.
  • Provision of cover for Consultant colleagues' periods of leave in accordance with arrangements agreed within Trust policy.
  • Participation in clinical audit and governance activities.
  • Conducting suitable duties in cases of emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
  • The post holder will participate in an out of hours consultant rota, detailed within the job plan section

Qualifications

Essential

  • Fully registered with the GMC
  • CCT (or equivalent for non-UK applicants of equivalent status), or be accredited (or equivalent), and be on the GMC Specialist Register in the specialty appropriate for this consultant post at the time of taking up the consultant appointment. Alternatively, candidates can hold or be within 6 months of their CCT at interview.
  • Completed advanced/specialist training in Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology
  • Child Protection level 3 compliant
  • Completed advanced training in Labour Ward practice

Experience

  • Clinical training/experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT
  • Expertise in full range of Obstetric and Gynaecological problems both emergency and elective conditions
  • Ability to lead a multi-professional team and take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
