The post holder will work for the Transport & Fleet Services department as a driver either on a collection / delivery of small stores/samples, a collection of Clinical Waste within the Wiltshire boundaries and Neighbouring counties or as an Internal Patient Transport Driver.

The driver will be based at The Great Western Hospital and will deliver goods to Swindon, Chippenham, Bath and the surrounding areas.

You will be required to have good organisational and prioritising skills, good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work to deadlines. You need to ensure you can effectively and efficiently manage your workload and be able to provide good customer service at all times.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. As a Patient Transport Driver you will drive a fully equipped patient transport ambulance taking patientsto various locations around the GWH site and will also help with the discharging of patients to localnursing homes.2. Loading of stores prior to dispatch on route: To include medical records, internal mail, medicalequipment.3. A delivery and collection service of internal mail, documents, medical stores and any ad-hoc stores /equipment to locations on a pre-determined route as detailed by the Transport Department.4. A collection of pathological samples from surgeries and a delivery service to pathology laboratories.5. Collection of clinical waste from patients residential addresses as part of a specialist dedicated route.6. Ensure that strict time/route schedules are adhered to and reporting to the Transport Department incase of deviation and/or delays. Overtime will not be paid unless authorised in these cases.7. To ensure the correct disposal of clinical waste at recognised disposal sites.8. Assist and undertake valets of the Trusts pool vehicle fleet and other official vehicles, to ensure anacceptable standard of cleanliness, inside and out.
