Job summary

The Trust Equipment Service delivers scientific, engineering, managerial and financial advice to the Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in the correct operation and use of modern medical technologies. It also provides a service and management facility to other local healthcare organisations under agreed Service Level Agreements.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is primarily concerned with undertaking repair, calibration and maintenance to a wide rangeof medical, diagnostic and therapeutic equipment to ensure equipment operates effectively and safely witha minimum of downtime. The post is part of a team of multi skilled specialist engineers and technicians whosupport a wide range of clinical and information technology equipment.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. The post holder is primarily expected to provide support services for electro-medical and informationtechnology equipment. The post holder will also provide technical assistance with the servicing andmaintenance of some radiology equipment, and other equipment that the department support.2. To be responsible for undertaking complex non-routine maintenance and repair of patient connectedelectro-medical equipment, without detailed supervision.3. To achieve specialist expertise in the scientific and engineering aspects of electro-medical equipment.4. To be responsible for the supervision of junior staff and contractors working on site.5. To be responsible for quality and performance testing and commissioning of new patient connectedmedical equipment, ensuring that equipment is safe for clinical use.6. To be responsible for identifying and specifying parts required for equipment repair.7. To be responsible for undertaking modification to medical equipment, in accordance with agreedprotocols and procedures, to ensure optimum performance and clinical care.8. To be responsible for carrying out emergency on site troubleshooting during medical procedures.9.   • Professional electronics knowledge to degree equivalent level, acquired through BSc or BEng in a relevant engineering discipline or HND + short courses or equivalent training and experience
  • Health & Safety training as required
  • Trained to undertake Electrical Safety & Portable Appliance Testing and be able to interpret the results obtained

Desirable

  • Membership of the Register of Clinical Technologists (RCT)
  • Registered with Engineering Council
  • Member of Institute of Physics & Engineering in Medicine (IPEM)
  • To have been trained in the use of Biomedical Test Equipment
