Deputy Director of Finance

Band 9 (Subject to Job Evaluation)

We are currently looking to recruit an experienced, professional and highly motivated Deputy Director of Finance - a high profile post and integral to the continued success of the organisation. In this post you will be expected to work at the highest level in the organisation demonstrating credibility with Trust Directors, Senior Management Teams and Clinicians and at a senior level with external bodies e.g. System Partners and Regulators.

The Deputy Director of Finance will work with the Executive Director of Finance and Strategy to successfully deliver the Trusts strategic and operational financial objectives, through effective management, development and delivery of internal financial policies and processes. This post manages the overall Finance department on a day to day basis and will deputise for the Executive Director of Finance and Strategy as appropriate.

Main duties of the job

This role requires a strategic and politically astute individual who is highly knowledgeable on the changing financial landscape in the NHS and will be able to influence and lead within the Trust and the wider system. Working closely with Director of Finance and Strategy, the appointed individual will also play an integral role in turning our future vision at GWH into a reality and will also be a prominent financial voice in the system championing collaborative agreements and ways of working.

  • Masters or equivalent qualification
  • CCAB qualification - "Qualified Accountant"

  • Formal management qualification or equivalent experience

  • In depth knowledge of the current NHS agenda and challenges.
  • Extensive experience post qualification in the NHS or similar complex organisation
  • Experience of working with Executive teams and Boards
  • Negotiation at executive level with complex and highly sensitive and contentious information
  • Forging external relationships built on Trust and respect and through strong negotiation skills when needed
  • Experience of strategic service planning and redesign.
  • Experience of staff management and development.
