Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the integrated diabetes nursing team within Swindon for a period of 12 months. This post will be based within the community diabetes team with a focus on providing education to people with Type 2 diabetes. There will also be the opportunity to support clinical activity within the team and to provide support and education to health care professionals.

Main duties of the job

The Diabetes Nurse Educator will be a registered professional working within the integrated diabetes nursing team with a specific focus on providing structured education sessions for people living with type 2 diabetes. The role will also include supporting clinical activity within the team and providing support and education to health care professionals in addition to people living with diabetes and their family / carers.

The Diabetes Nurse Educator will be committed to promoting improved quality of life, for the individual living with diabetes and their family.

  • Evidence of recent development
  • Proven ability in teaching and presentation skills

Desirable

  • Relevant post registration diabetes course eg "Care of the adult with Diabetes module"
  • Recognised Teaching qualification
  • Advanced communication skills course or counselling course

Experience

Essential

  • Clinical diabetes experience
  • Evidence of management/ leadership skills and autonomous practice
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Can demonstrate clinical experience in a variety of areas
  • Practical experience of working with people with diabetes and their families / carers

Desirable

  • Delivering patient education sessions
  • Experience in independent diabetes clinic consultation
  • Insulin initiation teaching

Knowledge
