Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic/innovative nurse to join the management team on Neptune Respiratory Unit, as a band 6 junior sister/charge nurse.

It is currently an exciting time for our Team as we are setting up 2 new Respiratory High Care Areas within the Unit. We have a total of 44 beds, 19 of which are High Care. The nursing staff work across the whole unit and are skilled in managing a variety of respiratory conditions and have many competencies which include Tracheostomies, Chest Drains, NIV and CPAP.

We work 12 hour shifts on Neptune Respiratory Unit:

Day shift 07.00 19.45, Night shift 19.00 07.45

Main duties of the job

Strong leadership is a must for this unit therefore we are looking for a nurse who is proactive, can lead by example and who has a passion for change management and improving the experience of our staff and patients. It would be an advantage if some management training has been undertaken; however motivation and enthusiasm are essential. You must have excellent communication skills and a keen interest in Respiratory Medicine but experience is not essential.

The education of staff is a high priority for the Management Team on Neptune, therefore you can expect career development but in return you must have a key interest in teaching and guiding others to their goals. It is essential that all staff maintain their competencies and improve their knowledge in order to give the highest standard of care possible.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse in providing effective nursing leadership supporting a team of nurses ensuring the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) code of conduct is at the forefront of the teams nursing care. In addition, the post holder will be required to work closely with the multi-disciplinary team in the provision of a high standard of individualised patient care, thus improving the patient experience. The position supports a clinical role in addition to assisting in the management of operational issues. The post will incorporate the provision of care to patients, their families and carers in accordance with the philosophy and standards of care within the clinical area; in line with Trust policies and procedures, ensuring that values and beliefs are upheld.
