Job summary

Are you passionate about education and supporting others?

You will be part of our team responsible for the design and delivery, assessment, monitoring and evaluation of educational courses and providing clinical development to Ambulance Service Staff within the Trust.

Main duties of the job

To deliver high quality and professional teaching and learning to, and assessment of staff and students according to the needs of the Trust. To work in a team of lecturer practitioners to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of educational courses across a variety of teaching and learning environments.

To support the Education Managers and their team to ensure that their workstream of programmes are planned, and managed effectively, and take the lead in assisting in their successful delivery.

Teaching and Learning

  • Deliver a range of education and training covering pre-professional, pre-registration and post-registration learning and development.
  • Be familiar with the different learning preferences and behaviours to ensure effective development is achieved, and to be able to provide an inclusive adult learning environment.
  • Operate and utilise IT equipment in order to compile and deliver training packages, in accordance with Trust IM+T Policies.
  • To complete and maintain individual learner records, including tutorials, assessments, and course summary reports, etc, to satisfy requirements of both the Trust and external stakeholders.
  • Actively ensure that conflict resolution, infection prevention and control, equality and diversity, manual handling, safeguarding and any other element of statutory and mandatory training is delivered as prescribed.
  • To ensure that staff, tutors, and learners adhere to national and Trust policies, guidelines, procedures, and values, and compliance with health and safety legislation. Where standards fall below the required minimum ensure that these elements are accurately documented, and informal/formal counselling is applied in accordance with service policies and procedures in a sympathetic and empathetic manner.
  • To maintain patient derived information and confidentiality, in line with Trust policies and ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act and Caldicott Principles.
  • Assist in the tuition and mentoring of trainee/seconded Lecturer Practitioners and clinical tutors and document in accordance with policies and procedures, and/or qualification requirements.

Assessment and Support

  • Monitor and record the progress and development of learners throughout the educational journey. Identify learners requiring support, and complete individual learning and development plans, in collaboration with learners.
  • Implement, monitor, and review individual learning and development plans ensuring appropriate documentation.
  • Undertake the evaluation, examination process, and assessment of clinical and non-clinical staff to standards determined by relevant awarding bodies, current Health and Safety guidelines, Quality Management systems and Trust policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the accurate documentation of all evaluations and assessments is compiled and processed in accordance with national and local policies and procedures.

Evaluation, Reporting and escalating

  • Undertake and appropriately document Education and Training quality assurance mechanisms including evaluation and review of programmes of study, individual sessions, self, and peers.
  • To provide, as appropriate, information and reports on course activities and outcomes to the Lecturer Practitioner Quality Assurance Specialist.
  • To assist the Lecturer Practitioner Innovation and Design Specialist in the evaluation, development, and implementation of new and evolving programmes of study and learning.
  • Report (Datix as appropriate) and document incidents for awareness or action by the Education Manager, to include if appropriate the steps taken towards resolving any difficulties.

Estates and Equipment

To be responsible for the day-to-day management of the teaching and learning environment

  • ensuring building security is maintained and breaches in security are dealt with in accordance with Trust security policy documents.
  • ensuring the venues are kept clean, tidy, and safe.
  • ensuring the security and documentation of all out of date/prescription only medicines stored for instructional purposes within the centres.
  • maintaining and repairing (where practical or permissible) the equipment used for educational purposes
  • ensuring equipment is serviced, safe and fit for the purpose.
  • facilitating the logistical requirements of supporting the delivery of educational courses in varying locations.

Other

  • Undertake the necessary training, education, and professional development to maintain their own personal qualifications and continued professional development.
  • To attend meetings as instructed by, and on behalf of, the education managers.
  • Maintain links and liaise with staff from other departments, developing and sharing best practice where appropriate.
  • To provide advice and guidance on teaching and learning policy, process and procedure to managers, staff, and other groups as necessary.
  • Maintain professional registration and currency in accordance with the requirements of the relevant registering organisation.
  • Demonstrate clinical and non-clinical practices/skills that require a high degree of manual dexterity within a number of training disciplines.
  • Participate in relevant clinical audits and research projects, assisting in the implementation of findings, promoting effective and appropriate use of evidence-based practice.
  • Where requested, participate in clinical equipment, skills, and procedural trials, and provide feedback and analysis to the Trusts Research and Development Committee.
