FinanceResponsibility for managing, day-to-day operational expenditure within Clinical Engineering. Expenditure includes purchase of spares for clinical equipment maintenance, and costs associated with running the Clinical Engineering workshops and administrative support service.To ensure external maintenance contracts are, where necessary, in place and in accordance with Trust SFIs.Be an authorised signatory as per delegated limit for ordering parts and accessories etc.Ensure best value through negotiations with external suppliersVerify and authorise expenses claims from Clinical Engineering staff.Provide information to support the development of capital and revenue bids for medical devices.Responsible for providing a medical devices database that details complete asset information, cost history and maintenance/repair history for medical devices.Continually review current arrangements to identify areas for efficiencies and cost reductions.
CommunicationLiaise with equipment users and other staff on issues relating to the maintenance and operational safety of equipment, translating technical language into everyday language and understanding clinical terminology relating to equipment usage.Design and deliver an easily accessible service in line with the requirements of the clinical and non-clinical users of the service.Provide, receive and analyse complex information in relation to medical devices.Deliver cascade equipment technical training to other clinical engineering staff.Instruct and performance manage external contractors and in house maintenance staff.Motivate departmental staff through effective communication.Liaise with equipment suppliers on issues relating to equipment maintenance and safety, relaying complex technical informationPersonal and People DevelopmentDevelop and agree own personal development plan with feedback from others from internal and external parties.Manage and mentor departmental staff to ensure the service is delivered effectively and safely.Ensure staff undertaking work are continually competence assessed and that records are kept.Participate in continual professional development particularly in the field of clinical engineering.Health, Safety and SecurityExercise the general Duty of Care under Health & Safety legislation and co-operate with others to promote a safe and healthy working environment.Ensure risk assessments are undertaken and routinely reviewed in a systematic manner on the activities of the department and areas of work.
Service Delivery and improvementEnsure the Clinical Engineering team provides a maintenance and repair service which meets the Trusts operational plan.Provide and maintain departmental policies in line with manufacturers recommendation and/or best practice for the maintenance and repair of medical devices.Contribute and lead on specific programmes of work e.g. Equipment Replacement Plan, Business Continuity, Olympic planning.Identify and install a suitable equipment management system to enable the accurate planning of device maintenance and resource allocation. The system will also need to provide a detailed history of the maintenance and repair of all medical devices.Commission, calibrate, maintain and repair complex medical devices.Allocate work to the staff within Clinical Engineering.Monitor stock levels and replenish as required.Develop with the Medical Devices Manager Standard Operating Procedures for the medical devices database and associated workstreams.Ensure the medical devices database includes up to date scheduling of planned preventative maintenance.Provide training and guidance to users of the medical devices database and associated procedures.Undertake investigations into device related incidents in accordance with Trust policies and requirements.Develop and manage the departments Technical Library of service manuals, user instructions and safety information, to ensure that information required for the correct and safe operation and maintenance of clinical equipment is made available to the appropriate staff.Perform urgent and unscheduled repairs which will interrupt daily working schedules.Ensure that Trust safety policies and working procedures are adhered to when carrying out work on clinical equipment and to recommend changes that will enhance the service.The post holder will be required on a daily basis, after appropriate manual handling training, to lift, move and transport clinical equipment within the trust and to other sites where the department has a maintenance commitment. This includes loading/unloading vehicles and travelling between sites.Generate ideas and fully contribute to and implement the findings of any audit of the Clinical Engineering service undertaken.Ensure systems are in place to accurately record staff locations and drivers of vehicles at any given time.
QualityTo accurately record all work carried out, materials used, and any other details required by the Medical Devices Manager in support of the Trusts equipment management system.To develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure high levels of data quality within the medical devices management system.Implement and maintain a recognised and externally assessed quality system.To record and track the relevance and compliance of medical device related alerts.To ensure KPI information on the Clinical Engineering department is collated and presently in a timely and accurate way.To undertake regular assessments of the departments service and competency of staff on the work undertaken.
