Job summary
We are seeking an exceptional and forward-thinking Director of Estates & Facilities to lead the strategic and operational management of our Trust's estate and infrastructure. This is a pivotal leadership position, responsible for ensuring our environments aresafe, compliant, efficient and fit for the future across a complex and diverse portfolio including 11 inpatient sites, 37 wards, 32 community locations, and 15 partner-occupied buildings/
As a key member of the corporate leadership team, you will shape and deliver the Trust's estate strategy, providing expert professional advice to the Board, Executive Team and wider system partners. You will hold corporate accountability for estates and facilities governance, statutory and regulatory compliance, risk management, capital investment planning, environmental sustainability and the performance of Estates & Facilities services.
You will also lead major capital programmes and modernisation projects, ensuring they are delivered to the highest standards of safety, quality and value for money. This includes driving the Trust's long-term estate redevelopment, backlog reduction and carbon-reduction ambitions. The role requires a highly skilled and credible senior leader with the ability to interpret complex legislation, engage confidently with external regulators, negotiate with contractors and partners, and influence decision-making at the most senior levels.
Main duties of the job
Lead the Trust's Estates & Facilities strategy, ensuring all buildings are safe, compliant, efficient and aligned to clinical and corporate objectives.
Oversee all estates and facilities services across inpatient, community and partner sites, ensuring high standards and full compliance with legislation and NHS guidance (including HTMs, HBNs, PAM and health & safety).
Provide expert professional advice to the Board, Executive Directors and senior leaders on estates, infrastructure, capital, safety and compliance matters.
Lead the capital programme, including planning, business-case development, procurement and delivery of major projects.
Hold corporate responsibility for estates budgets, ensuring strong financial control, cost-improvement delivery and value for money.
Ensure robust assurance and risk management, including audit programmes (fire, legionella, asbestos, catering, cleaning) and regulatory compliance reporting.
Drive sustainability and the Trust's carbon-reduction agenda, working with internal teams and external partners.
