Job summary

If you are looking for a way to express your caring personality and support those suffering from mental health illnesses, we have a fantastic opportunity to join our security team based at Northside House in Norwich as a Unit Security Officer.

Relational Security is at the foundation of how we run our services and support SU to recover, also it is a security of the knowledge and understanding we have of a patient, of ourselves and of the environment, and the translation of that information into appropriate responses and care. Relational security is not just about having a 'good relationship' with a SU. Safe and effective relationships between staff and service user must be professional, therapeutic, and purposeful with understood limits.

Job responsibilities

  • Provide security and safety during early & late shifts within Northside House and secure service inpatient areas.
  • Provides physical security checks on a shift-by-shift basis.
  • Respond to all emergency situations within the Unit.
  • Support Security Lead in ensuring performance and governance issues relating to security and safety are managed and recorded.
  • To work with the ward leadership teams to ensure all standards are audited, recorded and acted upon.
  • Conduct security checks in identified area (environmental, procedural, and relational) on a shift-by-shift basis as guided by appropriate medium /low secure standards.
  • Maintain a general knowledge of current ward arrangements, operational policies andclinical objective.
  • Assist in environmental risk assessments in conjunction with responsible teams for area.
  • Ensure all issues relating to risk and security are documented clearly in line with good record keeping practice including environmental risk assessments for suicide risk, personal safety risk and operational security risks. This includes Lorenzo and Datix.
  • The post holder will, at times, provide cover in reception/control when the situation arises.
  • Point of contact for issues of security and safety in absence of the Security Lead.

  • Care Certificate. Evidence of further training up to NRVQ/VRQ 3, Diploma 3 H&SC, Apprenticeship L3 in H&SC or relevant experience.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Health & Safety at Work legislation. First Aid Qualification.

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience in care sector.

Desirable

  • Previous relevant experience in Secure Mental Health settings. Compliance in PMA/Restraint or relevant experience.

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to work without direct supervision liaising appropriately with other practitioners in the service as required.
  • Good interpersonal & communication skills.
  • Good observation recording and reporting skills
