Job summary

We are looking to recruit a Band 6 Trainee Systemic Psychotherapist to join us working in the Community Adolescent Eating Disorder Service (CAEDS). The suitable candidate will have completed the post graduate training in systemic therapy and secured a place on MSc (or equivalent) in systemic and family psychotherapy training.Due to the needs of the service, priority will be given to those who have already secured a place on MSc, or equivalent family therapy training. If not, the expectation will be that the applicant will secure training within 6 -12 months of being employed. You will be based in Kings Lynn but the service has teams across Norfolk and Suffolk and a day treatment service based in Norwich

You will be part of a supportive and committed MDT providing treatment and support to young people and their families, who are affected by an eating disorder. This role will have an emphasis on working with families and using the FT AN model in particular. Based on service need and our wish to develop this important role as soon as possible, serious consideration will be afforded those applicants who have already secured a place on a family therapy qualifying course.

Main duties of the job

You will be an advocate for the family and the importance of their involvement in the treatment of eating disorders. This post will include providing support, knowledge and advice to CAEDS, paediatric colleagues and primary care.

CAEDS benefit from a full MDT including mental health practitioners, Drs, Psychologists, dietitian and assistant practitioners, who seek to offer evidence-based interventions to enhance recovery, reduce the length of the illness, and enhance the confidence of parent/carers to support the young person. The team greatly values the unique perspective and contribution family therapists.

Alongside working with individual families this role offers the opportunity to join our reflecting team and to support parent support groups and multi family groups. We have regular FT AN supervision groups and the successful candidate would help cofacilitate these supervisions.

Undertaking the final part of family psychotherapy training is a big commitment and you would be supported to complete this. You will receive appropriate supervision from a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist, and we will ensure that you have sufficient clinical opportunities to fulfil the requirements of the course.

Supervision, professional development, and staff welfare are important to the service and time and support will be available to engage in all these important roles.
